What is a Qualifying Life Event?

Once Open Enrollment is over, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you’ve had a qualifying life event in the past 60 days.  Below is a list of examples of a qualifying life event.

  • Got married
  • Had a baby, adoption, or placed a child in foster care
  • Lost health insurance due to divorce or legal separation
  • Death
  • Moving outside of insurance coverage area
  • Lost insurance or COBRA ended

Is Cancer a Qualifying Life Event?

Unfortunately, a diagnosis of cancer is NOT considered a qualifying life event for a Special Enrollment Period.  However, you may qualify for certain kinds of insurance.  Please call our office at 801-718-0051 and speak with one of our Insurance Specialists to see what insurance you may qualify for.

Is Diabetes a Qualifying Life Event?

Unfortunately, a diagnosis of Diabetes is NOT considered a qualifying life event for a Special Enrollment Period.  However, you may qualify for certain kinds of insurance.  Please call our office at 801-718-0051 and speak with one of our Insurance Specialists to see what insurance you may qualify for.

Are you Expecting?

If you are expecting, congratulations!  The time prior to the birth of your child (expecting period) is NOT considered a qualifying life event for a Special Enrollment Period.  However, once your child is born, this DOES qualify as a qualifying life event for a Special Enrollment Period.  Please call our office at 801-718-0051 and speak with one of our Insurance Specialists to enroll in a health plan.
