Everyone has heard of the difficulties of the HealthCare.Gov website. The Health Insurance Specialists take pride in knowing the ends and outs of this website and can make it an easy process for many of our clients to fill out their applications and enroll in a health insurance policy. In this blog, I would like to include some information needed so that everyone is aware of what is usually required to fill out an ACA Application.

First, you will need to set up an account on HealthCare.Gov. In order to set up an account, be sure and have an active email address where you can have access to in the future. This is key to starting your application.

Second (and probably the most difficult part of the application), is the Identity Verification Process. You will need to include your address, full name, date of birth, and phone number. Now sometimes if the Healthcare.gov website cannot verify your identity, you will need to provide your Social Security Number, but it is a government website that strives to keep your personal information safe.

Third, you will need to provide information about your family. Who is applying for coverage and their names and dates of birth as well as the relationship they have with you.

Fourth, you will need to provide income information. It is adjusted gross income for the year you are applying for coverage. For open enrollment starting up on November 15th, 2014 you will need to provide what your expected gross income amount for the year 2015 will be. Along with your income, you will need to provide your Employers information to verify you do receive an income and are planning to file a federal tax return.

If you are filing your application to receive coverage during a time that is outside of Open Enrollment (a period of time designated by the government when anyone is able to apply for health insurance coverage) you will need to answer some qualifying event questions. Did you recently lose coverage, are you going to lose coverage in the next 60 days, etc.? You can skip the optional questions that are irrelevant to your situation.

Last, you will need to agree to the terms and conditions and electronically sign your name.

At The Health Insurance Specialists, we are your advocates to help you go through the process of filling out an application for Healthcare.gov.  We do this so that you can complete the application process correctly and be able to take advantage of the Affordable Care Act benefits, specifically offered to those who qualify for tax credits and plans offered to you and your family.
